2005 – Goodbye to Another Sucky Year

fingerWell, it could have been worse, I guess. I accomplished what I wanted to this year, which wasn’t easy in the Bush Economy.

But for the planet and the country – gee-zuz. The Tsunami, the hurricanes, the earthquakes, the monsoons, The War, W’s wonderful cabinet and the scandals, the Bird Flu … I imagine a lot of people will be glad when 2005 is over.

Not that there is any magic with the “New Year” – its purely arbitrary, afterall. But if people think things will get better in 2006, odds are they will. Until some other cosmic bummer descends on the planet, at least.

So, so long 2005. F U.

GPL 1969 Mod

69 brmThis actually came out a couple weeks ago. A new mod for Grand Prix Legends which supports the 1969 model year of Formula 1 cars … with wings. I’m so rusty at GPL I could barely keep these cars on the track.

You need the GEM+2 mod manager to get this to work. Links to everything you need are on the download page. This is the first release, there are a couple more in development to support the evolution of ground effects in the cars in 1969. Amazing what’s possible on a game that’s getting close to being ten years old.

Speedgeezers Gateway v4

Finally getting around to finishing projects during theholiday break. One was to finish the rework on the gateway/directory for the Speedgeezers site. This is a site which evolved from my old vPaddock site about 4 years ago and now has grown to being a pretty important part of the sim-racing community.

Basically I retired the old LDU portal site and built an XML-driven directory display, and then integrated in a nice little open-source news posting script. The whole thing is very tight and easy to operate.

“The Fog”

You StinkYou’ve probably seen that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry has his car valet parked and then there’s a smell of body odor that no force in Heaven or Earth can get rid of. Today I experienced a milder version of that scenario.

I was at Trader Joes doing my grocery shopping this afternoon. I’m looking in one of the freezer cases for some frozen shrimp and then notice a smell. It’s BO … body odor. Bad. My first thought is that maybe it’s me … an obvious first reaction. But it isn’t me. And it’s getting stronger. And stronger.

They’re Ba-aa-ack : Pats 28 – Bucs 0

Pats BucsThe experts expected a close game, but that the Bucs would win. So did I, I’m sorry to say. It wasn’t snowing in Foxboro, and the Bucs had a winning record on the road, a hot new running back, and one of the best defenses this season.

The Pats had an ugly win against the Jets and then stomped the Bills last week. Neither of them had winning records. So this weekend was a moment of truth – could the Pats beat a playoff calibre team?

They could. They did. They shut the Bucs out: twenty-eight-zip.
